Rings!

I knew if I got married I didn't want a diamond ring. I was drawn to the idea of wood for my wedding ring. Trees symbolize life, roots, growth, nature, strength...things I can relate to and that I see in Jeff. A few days ago, a friend of mine suggested Jewelry by Johan, a Minnesota based custom jeweler who specializes in wood rings. Tonight, Jeff and I drove to Hastings, Minnesota and picked out our rings. Johan himself helped us determine the size, cut, and style. We eeked in just before the deadline to have our rings ready for the wedding.

These are not our rings, but are similar (the wood here is Redwood). Photo: Jewelry by Johan

Our rings will be custom-made with titanium and ironwood burl. We got to see the block of wood that will become our rings. Johan explained his process of making the ring from solid wood, no bending, joints or glue because he builds his rings to last. To ensure the rings last, he applies a hard enamel of ring armor to make them waterproof, but cautions that all things can be destroyed (all but energy, my friend). If the ring armor chips, we need to visit Johan again and he will apply a new coat because his rings are built to last. Like Jeff and myself.

We look forward to celebrating with you all soon!
